Gr. 6-10. Religious teens speak for themselves about their spirituality in this compact book. The kids' natural-sounding voices and the format, with plenty of photos and text overlaid with religious symbols and art, are the book's best selling points. Unfortunately, when it comes to basics, the writing is sloppy. For instance, Buddhism is said to have started in the "fifth-century A.D.," instead of B.C., and throughout, Reform Judaism is called "reformed," a real no-no. Getting such facts wrong is too bad, because kids will be drawn to the book's more personal elements. A Muslim girl speaks honestly (and, for a religious girl, sometimes coarsely) about what it means to follow so many rules. An Evangelical Christian boy explains through his music what it's like to know Jesus. Teens of the Hindu, Quaker, Mormon, Greek Orthodox, and other faiths are profiled. There's even a girl who practices Wicca. This is attractive and cost-effective; with more attention to detail, it could have been really good. Ilene Cooper
