Ai moralisti, che la giudicarono in nome d'un prin cipio, che nulla ha a che fare con l'arte, seguě un'altra corrente, che la condannň con ben altre armi, forse piů affilate delle prime. Perchč, mentre i moralisti si lamentavano dei sentimenti rappresentati dal Calderon, di certi principî, da cui un cristiano, cattolico per giunta, deve rifuggire, di quegli stessi troppo platonici amori descritti dal poeta, essi non negavano, in fondo, che tutto ciň, per quanto condannabile, fosse stato trattato e maneggiato con efficacia di mezzi artistici e in una forma giudicata meravigliosa.
