This book, Aylesworth's Territories and Possessions (Chelsea House, 1988), or Carpenters' Ocean Lands (Encyclopedia Brittanica, 1987) are sufficient to fulfill an assignment requiring a source other than an encyclopedia. However, for an understanding and a visual conception of the land, the people, and the culture of some of the larger and more populated U.S. territories, books which focus on a single territory, well-supported with photographs, such as William Lutz' Guam (Chelsea House, 1987) or Antonio J. Colorado's First Book of Puerto Rico (Watts, 1978; o.p.) will be more engaging and far more worthwhile.
