From School Library Journal:
Grade 7-12-Never has so much clear and readable advice been packed into a self-help book for YAs. Readers will find in its pages wise, common sense strategies for living through the "10,000 hours" of high school with a minimum of boredom and a maximum of personal and academic success. They can glean advice on getting adequate sleep and nutrition, handling stress and rejection, setting goals, and dealing with educational labels and vocational school recruiters. Throughout this dose of straight talk, the tone conveys respect for teens. The prose flows and the black-and-white cartoon illustrations sparkle. All libraries serving adolescents should have at least one copy of this refreshing title.

From Kirkus Reviews:
Bringing a Pollyanna attitude to such advice as ``A smile can start a friendship,'' or not complaining about waiting in line, Dunnahoo stresses self-knowledge as a basis for goal-setting and offers an overview of what teens face--the effects of changes on the body, thinking ahead to college, etc. The material is oddly organized (a section on alternative schooling follows parental guidance on careers). Comic illustrations (``only 4,952 hours to go,'' muses one cartoon character) help move the information along, but for the most part this handbook is so basic that it's not very helpful: most kids will be too sophisticated to find the offerings here useful.
