The strains and lyrics of Berthe Sylva and Charles Trenet's chansons, played on the gramophone of the local haunt, the Delsevy, unite the characters and the action in a vivid, hothouse atmosphere that is constantly changing, constantly entertaining and disturbingly erotic.
