The county seat of Monmouth County, Freehold began as an agricultural community and later developed into a center of commerce and industry. The rural characters of both Freehold Township and Freehold Borough are revealed in this marvelous new photographic history, which contains many photographs taken around the turn of the century. T his fantastic collection of about two hundred historic images includes views of early hotels and merchants along an unpaved Main Street, and glimpses of the workrooms and looms inside the Karaghusian Rug Mill. Well-known Freehold residents such as
champion bicyclist Arthur Zimmerman are featured, as well as many popular historic and recreational sites including the Freehold Raceway, and, of course, Molly Pitcher’s Well. All of the photographs are accompanied by concise, engaging commentary.
