Besides US Military members, the U.S. President, Vice President, Senators and Representatives were authorized to and did receive care at Walter Reed. In 2005, the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) recommended that the Army close the WRAMC, with the name to be carried over to the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in nearby Bethesda, Maryland.
