About the Author:

Susan Cropper's passion for knitting, crochet and textiles led to the opening of Loop in London in July 2005. Trusting in her creative instincts Susan conceived the kind of shop she wanted to be able to go to – one that is warm and friendly, sells fabulous yarns, has great pattern support and knowledgeable, helpful staff. Loop was voted one of the top 100 shops in London by Time Out magazine, as well as one of the hottest shops by Elle Decoration. Originally from New York, Susan studied Textile Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts, New York. For the past 20 years she has worked as an Art Director and Designer for major UK publications and companies in both home and lifestyle areas. She lives in London with her husband and three children.

"Cropper (Pretty Knits) enlisted the assistance of several well-known designers for this collection of vintage-inspired patterns that draws from a variety of eras, from the sophisticated 1940s and 1950s to the relaxed 1960s and 1970s. The book is organized by type of projectâ??clothing, housewares, accessories, and giftsâ??rather than period, so a classic-Hollywood style wrap, a 1970s-style mesh tunic, and a bobbled cloche-and-scarf combo show up in the same chapter. This can be a bit jarring, but it could also help crocheters find designs that may be outside their comfort zone. Directions are provided for each pattern; an appendix covers the specialty stitches used in the patterns. Most of the projects are appropriate for advanced beginners and beyond. And the styling is gorgeousâ??each project has a multipage treatment with fashion-style photos as well as detailed close-ups.
