Condition: Fair. 1938. No Edition Remarks. 285 pages. No dust jacket. Black cloth with gilt lettering. Black and white illustrated plates. Light foxing and noticeable tanning to pages and plates. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Moderate cracking to gutters causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with visible splitting and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Condition: Good. 1938. 285 pages. Beige pictorial dust jacket over Grey cloth with gilt lettering. Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Light tanning to spine and edges. Light wear to clipped dust jacket with tears, nicks and creases to spine, edge and corners. Moderate tanning to spine and edges.

Illustrated with 17 b-w halftone plates from oil paintings and 57 pen and ink drawings by Frank H. Mason, R. I. Please feel free to inquire as to particulars and/or additional photographs. . Hendy began his seafaring career sailing in four-masted barques around the Horn. He later sailed between Britain and Nova Scotia before trasnsferring to steamers in the Persian Gulf. He worked for the Cunard Line before moving east to command steamers in the South China Sea. During WW1 he served in the Indian Army on the North-West Frontier and Mesopotamia. He was with General Townshend on the ill-fated advance on Baghdad and narrowly escaped capture by being seconded to the Royal Navy to take a gun-boat down the Tigris. Henly also wrote under the nom de plume "Shalimar" In exceptionally good condition.
