A small record, containing recordings of the original staging of 1928, is laid into pocket at rear of volume. 105 pages. This opera in two acts by Richard Strauss, to a German libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, premiered at the Dresden Semperoper on 6 June 1928.

F. sehr guter Zustand, geringe Gebrauchs- und Alterungsspuren Fünfzehn Jahre nach der ersten Zugfahrt in Deutschland begann in der Hansestadt Rostock an der Warnowmündung das Eisenbahnzeitalter. Am 13. Mai 1850 rollten die ersten planmäßigen Züge zwischen Schwerin, Güstrow und Rostock. Schnell wuchsen in der Folgezeit die Bahnanlagen Rostocks heran, 1853 wurde das Hafengleis ans Wasser gebaut, 1886 entstand mit der Lloydbahn Warnemünde-Rostock-Neustrelitz eine Verbindung von der Küste in Richtung Berlin und 1903 schließlich wurde das Eisenbahnnetz durch den Trajektverkehr Warnemünde-Gedser über die Ostsee hinweg nach Skandinavien erweitert. Der Zweite Weltkrieg hinterließ in Rostock ein Bild der Verwüstung. Doch die Bedeutung des Hafens für die DDR als Tor zur Welt sorgte dafür, dass die Bahnanlagen der Hansestadt zielstrebig wieder aufgebaut und erweitert wurden. 1985 erreichte der Fahrdraht den Verkehrsknotenpunkt in Mecklenburg. Schließlich brachten die Jahre nach der Wende bedeutende Veränderungen: Der Rostocker Hauptbahnhof wird zum »Bahnhof der Zukunft« umgestaltet, auf der anderen Seite ist der Güterverkehr in den vergangenen Jahren dramatisch zurückgegangen. Kenntnis- und facettenreich beschreibt und illustriert dieses Buch die letzten 150 Jahre der spannenden Rostocker Eisenbahngeschichte.
