Oblong octavo, brown boards (hardcover), 144 pp. Near-Fine, with bookplate, in a Fine dust jacket. From dust jacket: The introduction of the controversial Boeing 747 'jumbo jet' into airline service in 1970 focused attention on one of the oldest and largest, and undoubtably one of the most successful, companies in the US aerospace industry. From the two little wood-and-fabric B & W seaplanes built in 1916 by William Boeing and Conrad Westervelt has grown the giant enterprise that today is one of the world's leaders in the production of large commercial jet airliners, helicopters, missiles and space vehicles. Many aircraft of Boeing design already occupy a place in aviation's hall of fame: the little P-12 and P-26 fighters of the inter-war years, the Monomail and the all-metal Boeing 247 airliners of the 1930s, the wartime Fortress and Superfortress, and America's first production jet bomber, the B-47 Stratojet. All these appear, within the widely-diversified range of Boeing aeroplanes covering more than half a century, in the format now established for the series. The book contains about 180 illustrations. Aviation, Aeronautics, Aircraft, Aeroplanes, Air Planes. yslic.

Oblong octavo, orange cloth (hardcover), 111 pp. Near-Fine, with bookplate, in a Fine dust jacket. From dust jacket: The fame of the Focke-Wulf company rests mainly on the design of two aircraft, the Condor and the Fw 190. Until the 1930s the name of the company was frequently confused with that of the Dutch Fokker factory, but the arrival of Kurt Tank changed all that. He began the design of such remarkable products as the Fw 56 Stosser, the Fw 58 Weihe and the Fw 200 Condor four-engined airliner which established several world records. But it was the Fw 190 taht was the company's most successful product; perhaps the most perfect radial-engined fighter ever built. This book describes the little-known early products of Focke-Wulf, the arrival of Kurt Tank, the remakable aircraft prduced by him including a number of advanced jet fighter projects, and the re-establishment of the company after the war as the Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke. Mention is also made of the pioneering work carried out by Professor Heinrich Focke in the field of heliccopter design. Aviation, Aeronautics, Aircraft, Aeroplanes, Air Planes. zslic.

144 pp, large 8vo (9 1/4" H), hard cover in dust jacket. B&w photographs, drawings, tables. "Despite considerable parental disapproval (M.F. Higson) achieved his ambition to become a Fireman. This book gives a detailed account of his experiences stationed at Lancaster, Burton-on-Trent and Crewe, from shed labouring to firing a great variety of engine types, from M.R. 0-4-OTs to 'Duchess' Pacifics. By his own admission the life was at times sheer 'graft' - pay abysmal with working condition s frequently deplorable. The book attempts in part to convey the magnetism, that was powerful enough to outweigh all the drawbacks, while emphasising the hard reality of the work." Very small light stain at fore-edge of free rear endpaper , p r e v i o u s owner's name on front pastedown, very light browning to edges of textblock, light stain on fore-edge of textblock, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor edge wear. Dust jacket has very light edge wear, one small tear, a f ew ve ry t in y ch ip s, wrinkling at top/bottom of spine - very light edge wrinkling elsewhere, light rubbing, tiny dint on front hinge. Very Good-/Very Good-.

Since 1955 steam has virtually disappeared from Ireland's railways. So, also have many of the railways themselves. In this book are illustrations showing the principal changes that have taken place in that period. With narrow gauge steam, the Fintona horse tram, 6-wheel carriages, and even some antiquated diesel railcars, the Irish railways were a haven for the Irish railway enthusiast. Practically every type of locomotive to run in Ireland during this period is shown in the pages of this album.
