Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Ellen's favorite drawing place is beside the pond. There she befriends a goldfish and entertains him daily with her sketches. The balance of nature is soon interrupted when others discover Ellen's pond and the fish that inhabit it. Ellen creates a drawing that leads her friend away from the fishermen's hooks to a safe new home. This gentle story features pen-and-ink and watercolor cartoons in a satisfying mix of colors and tones. Beginning readers will enjoy the interaction between Ellen and her fish friend as well as looking for the friendly frog in each drawing.
