About the Author
Robert Nelson teaches music theory and composition at the Moores School of Music, University of Houston. A composer in residence and music director of the Houston Shakespeare Festival for 17 seasons, he has also received numerous commissions for compositions and arrangements for the Houston Symphony Orchestra.

"When I was shopping for a text, I found other text that were the equal of Foundations of Music in content, but lacked the CD-ROM and were comparably priced. I believe some students do work better on computers than on paper these days, making the computer angle most attractive."
"I have chosen this text because: 1) It has an excellent CD that accompanies it. 2) The computer program on that CD reinforces the concepts that I teach and allows my students to continue to drill and check to see if they understood each area of the text. This summer in my online class my students are sending me their computer work in email messages. 3) The text is the right size in that it has just the information needed for a Foundations of Music class. Many texts have way too much information."
