Dart-Throw Trader was written out of inspiration and desperation. It was born out of two very specific encounters that I had with two former students. 1. A Student from Chicago, who took 10 years to achieve his goal of getting a financial education because he couldn’t afford the cost of tuition. 2. An angry student in New York who claimed that the only way anyone could consistently make money in the markets was they had to be “Right” all the time. These two events coming together sent me on a quest; to discover once and for all what was missing in the financial education arena. This book, if you can call it a book, is actually a year-long journal of sorts, chronicling a challenge that I had given myself. This book reveals an unconventional method on how to pick stocks, how to trade stocks and how to trade options to profit in any market condition. Education is an ongoing process; true learners share a commitment to life-long learning, a desire to continually grow in knowledge and expertise within their chosen fields. I would suggest is that you take this book, this year-long behavioral analysis of the financial markets, and use it as a foundation for your continuing education into this amazing field of study. My hope is that somewhere in the pages of this book, you will find that “one thing”: the kernel of truth in which you can latch onto, dig deeper into, and create a home for yourself. Maybe it's one core strategy, maybe its one core idea, maybe it's just one different way of looking at the markets than you have in the past which will ultimately help you to become a better trader, a better investor, and maybe even a better person. My wish for you is that you will get something out of this book, something that will enable you to become more secure in your own approach to the financial markets. I wish for you the best of success. I wish that all of your trades will be winners. I wish that you, during this educational journey, will make a commitment to helping one other person become a better investor as well. As you read through the trades, and the commentary that accompanies each one, I want you to remember something very important about what you read: the trade commentary was lifted from my journal, verbatim. This means some of the sentences will run together, punctuation may be non-existent or even wrong. There will be incomplete sentences and a number of other disturbing things if you are a student of grammar and punctuation. I lifted the commentary from my trade journal and, like most traders, I sometimes think in incomplete sentences. I lifted the notes exactly as they were written 90% of the time because this was a discovery journal and not a doctoral thesis. Most of the commentary is as it was written at the time of the trade. I did leave some things out either because they were not relevant to the trade or not relevant to the idea. That is why you will sometimes run across sentences that abruptly change direction. To rewrite the commentary and try to “clean it up” would have stolen from the honesty of the moment and the thought process at the time of evaluation. I promise that as you read through the trade commentary it will make sense in the moment, in spite of the punctuation and grammatical errors. Oh, and one more thing. If you take anything I talk about in this book out of context and attempt to apply it to your own personal trades without adequate financial guidance, there is certainly a possibility that you will lose money, so my very best advice is to 1. Never invest with money you can’t afford to lose. 2. If you are confused... see number 1. Jimmy Slagle The Dart-Throw Trader
