Synopsis

A Revised, Expanded 2017 second edition. THE STORY BEGINS...and a new type of hero emerges from American history. A mild-mannered lawyer and reluctant veteran of the Revolutionary War roams the countryside as a new agent for the Inspector General of New York. His mission: to quietly enter small towns and see what remains of our justice system. He meets a runaway bond-servant who is disguising her looks behind dirt and rags. She tells him there’s something terribly wrong in Sleepy Hollow; something she’s ashamed to admit. He arrives at the town with a new identity, Ichabod Crane, schoolmaster. "I have decided to travel to Sleepy Hollow incognito. They say a community can be judged by how it treats its weakest members. I would become the Judas goat. Recalling the events I witnessed, I should have been less cavalier. One woman led me into this calamity; another led me out"____ Ichabod Crane. Blacksmith Brom Bones and the local farmers bully Ichabod as a weakling, but Katrina, the town beauty, starts to see through his charade. Fifteen year old Phoebe and her best friend Ingrid develop a fascination with their teacher. Seen through the eyes of school girls with crushes, they secretly watch him and discover a very different kind of hero indeed. On Halloween night, the not so timid Ichabod discovers the town secret and rides into legend on the Hessian Bridge. About the Author

Art Van Kraft is an NPR News Director, newspaper reporter and artist . His career as a journalist in Los Angeles produced hundreds of in-depth features. His stories as a social observer and writer garnered him the National Communicators Award and an R.T.N.A. Golden Mike Award. Kraft continues to paint throughout his writing career. The vibrant allegorical paintings become just another way to describe the world. Kraft is currently represented by Saatchi Art Gallery, Los Angeles. He also writes fiction in Ashland OR. "I am compelled to mention my credentials because writers and artists are largely a self appointed lot. I try to accomplish rather than achieve, but credibility is elusive. There are surely brilliant creations that will remain in obscurity, simply because the artists’ were unable to draw attention to them. I lament their loss; still, I believe it is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all." A. Van Kraft www.artkraftart.com
