Private investigator Lacey Jordan may have taken on more than she can handle after she agrees to work a surveillance case, investigate a backhoe incident, and search for a robber, while also helping Christmas shoppers in her store.

Whitelaw began her writing career as a cub reporter on a newspaper and becme the youngest female chief reporter in London. She has had over thirty novels published, as well as approximately 230 short stories.
The third Jordan Lacey mystery is a mixed blessing for fans of the plucky, offbeat British PI. Jordan is as delightful as ever, trying to get her detecting career going while operating a high-end junk shop in the seaside small town of Latching, but the premise is wearing a little thin. This is her third appearance, and she doesn't seem to have made any progress since her first adventure: she's still taking on several cases at once to make ends meet (here, she's tailing a suspected insurance fraud, checking out a case of vandalism, and looking into a series of violent robberies); still stumbling through her investigations like a gifted amateur; and still winding up in danger and requiring rescue. Readers who like to see series characters develop may get a bit frustrated. Still, the author is a splendid storyteller; Jordan remains a charming character, her inability to grow aside; and there's plenty of fun in these pages. Despite the general air of repetitiveness, the series hasn't nearly worn out its welcome. David Pitt
