What could possibly prepare a girl who grew up in Jesus' times to become an authoritative apostle in the early Church? It was a male–dominated society, and many women felt that they were only a girl. Nonetheless, the Apostle Paul commended Junia for being one of the apostles of note. See Romans 16:7. This very moving novel about this exceptional woman Junia will motivate each reader to realize that God can use them no matter what their gender or racial background might be. This intriguing story begins with Junia's early years and progresses on to the young woman who defied cultural traditions and social mores as she struggled to follow God's calling on her life. Girls and women will especially enjoy this story, for it will help them to realize that they can do something for society even though they are only a girl. It shows us that women served in significant leadership roles during biblical times. It reveals Jesus as the great liberator of women in that He elevated women to positions of great respect and dignity.

The day I learned that Junia, an apostle in the early Christian church, was a woman according to many outstanding theologians and historians, my hair stood on end (at least figuratively speaking). Was this really the Apostle Paul writing a commendation of a woman in a position of leadership in the early church? After all , some of his statements have been used throughout the years by many as "the authority" for keeping women from becoming ministers and serving in other church leadership positions. I wondered what Junia would have been like and what experiences she might have had to to prepare her to stand in the authoritative role of an apostle. I could not rest until I answered those questions with what I like to call "anointed imagination" by writing her story. It was an exciting adventure to weave together the events of the Bible, the history, practices and customs and ancient Jewish sayings, prayers and folk stories of that era. My research included a trip to Israel to do further study and see firsthand what I was describing. My hope is that you will be intrigued and encouraged by Junia's story. I also trust and pray that this account will inspire you to be and do all that God's purpose for you includes.
You will be intrigued to see how Junia faced the many challenges of her life and how she defied cultural traditions and social mores in order to follow God's calling. Jesus is the great liberator of women, and in Junia we find an example of a strong woman leader who lived and ministered in New Testament times. This is a very timely novel for girls and women today.
