From the Inside Flap

“The Honorable Myron H. Bright is truly a man never at a loss. His bright mind, good humor, and caring heart have made him a great jurist and teacher, one who constantly strives to make things better for all the people law exists to serve.” –Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice, United States Supreme Court “Here is the amazing story of a great American, a soldier, lawyer, judge, and teacher, told with the wisdom of almost a century of life. For a privileged few young men and women who were his law clerks, he instilled a profound appreciation of what it means to be a lawyer and idealist learned by watching him in action. This book brings that love of our American system of justice and compassionate idealism to a broader audience.” –Dennis Kelly, Judge Bright’s firs law clerk (1968-69), Former Partner at Jones Day

About the Author

Federal Judge Myron Bright, born March 5, 1919, in Eveleth, Minnesota, is the son of Jewish immigrants from Russia who made their home at the turn of the 20th century in northeast Minnesota's Iron Range. Prior to his judicial appointment in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, Myron Bright served as trial lawyer in Fargo, ND, participated in politics, and he and his late wife Fritzie contributed greatly to the election of Quentin Burdick to the US House and Senate.

Bright continues to work on the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, which includes the seven states of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Arkansas. He has served on more than 6,500 court cases and is the longest-serving federal appeals court judge in the United States. The Eighth Circuit Court has ruled on cases that touch some of the most significant issues in American history, and Judge Bright has provided the heart for many of those rulings through his influence on the opinion-making process and in his opinions covering almost every aspect of American law.
