Synopsis

Near the end of the Indian wars, a newly-married Pyute couple prepared to run to Canada and freedom. For two years they stored supplies in a secret cave. Unfortunately, poisoned blankets were dispersed amongst their tribe before they left for Canada. They were dead within two weeks. The goods they stored in this cave would save the life of an amazing woman. Queen Victoria Merriweather was a happy girl in the only world she knew, the world of slavery in the early 1800s. Obviously the daughter of the plantation owner, his wife demanded the girl be sold at once. Instead, Colonel Merriweather listened to the Creole woman he loved and gave freedom papers to “Tori” and Jackson, who had asked for Tori’s hand the year before. Tori and Jackson traveled to Colorado, near Sandy Creek—a lawless town of thieves, murderers, and a crooked sheriff. Life was good until Jackson went to Sandy Creek to sell a wagonload of pelts; he was robbed and beaten by four men. The crooked sheriff sent him to prison for fighting in the street. Tori had no idea why Jackson never returned home. Tori and her four-year-old child survive some harrowing events to get to Sandy Creek six weeks later. Will she find her husband?
