Thornwald: A Testament of the Sadler Legacy ~ by Laura Strickler This book is a signed, Limited Edition book on the Thornwald Mansion of Carlisle, Pa. The mansion was built in 1909 and was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Sadler of Carlisle. Sadler married Mary Bosler in the summer of 1902, who was the wealthiest woman in the town.Together they combined their wealth and had built the "Thornwold Mansion". Lewis Sadler went on to become the commissioner of highways for Pennsylvania from 1919 till his death in January 1922. Over the years the mansion was used as a nursing home in the 50's, but later fell into demise which led to a horrific fire in August 2007. However, some years later in 2010 a citizen of Carlisle purchased the mansion and has transformed it into a bed and breakfast. The 280 page book covers the full history of Thornwald including the history behind the wealthy Sadler/Bosler families. The entire history of the mansion from its beginnings in 1909 till present day are also covered in this book. Along with 300 photographs and a Thornwald Chronology (located in the rear) that give a visual history of the mansion. Also included are a number of blueprints which show the many rooms that were located in the mansion.
