Michael C. Armour grew up in what he defines as the "true wild"-a quiet river, a night coyote, an unpeopled shoreline on the Pacific rim-all fundamentally devoid of man and connected to the greater rhythms of nature. This urged him to write, paint and film. To bring even a small glimpse of what he has known into the heart of a child is a great honor to him. A freelance writer on both the east and west coasts, Michael has authored numerous novels, stories and screenplays. He has been a writer, producer and director for commercials and specials on both radio and television.
Off the Washington coast, an Orca whale pod hunts a school of salmon circling within fisherman's nets. Orca the Pup has not yet mastered the hunt and finds himself tangled in an abandoned net. It only draws tighter as he struggles to free himself. His family has wandered off, too far away to help him. Managing to escape, Orca is exhausted and alone. Drifting all night through the moonlit sea, he awakes stuck on a sand bar under the heat of the morning sun. With a little help, Pup is freed. He returns to the sea where he seeks to hear the songs of his Orca family again. Narrated by Peter Thomas, this book/cassette combination is ideal for pre-school through second grade. --Midwest Book Review
