About the Author

Chris Weber, EdD, is an expert in behavior, mathematics, and response to intervention (RTI) who consults and presents internationally. As a principal and assistant superintendent in California and Illinois, Chris and his colleagues developed RTI systems that have led to high levels of learning at schools across the United States.

In addition to writing and consulting, he continues to work with teachers and students within schools and school districts across Canada and the United States.

A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Chris flew C-141s during his military career. He holds a master's degree from California State University, San Marcos, and a doctorate of education from the University of California (Irvine and Los Angeles). He is a former high school, middle school, and elementary school teacher and administrator.

Darlene Crane is an author, speaker, and consultant with twenty-five years of experience in education. She is a vice principal for Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools in British Columbia and an instructor at Vancouver Island University. Her professional experience also includes serving as an RTI specialist for the West Virginia Department of Education. Darlene has extensive general education and special education classroom teaching experience in addition to holding district leadership roles.

Darlene has trained teachers and administrators throughout North America on tiered instruction including examining the impact on culture, structure, and instruction within a school community. Her work has targeted both mathematics and reading in the elementary and middle grades. Darlene's expertise includes identifying targeted improvements for classroom instruction, designing effective intervention to accelerate student learning, and creating collaborative school cultures. Darlene holds a master's degree in special education from West Virginia University.

Tom Hierck has been an educator since 1983 in a career that has spanned all grade levels and many roles in public education. His experiences as a teacher, administrator, district leader, department of education project leader, and executive director have provided a unique context for his education philosophy that is built on a foundation of creating and sustaining a positive school culture.

Tom is an expert in assessment, behavior, curriculum design, and RTI. He understands that educators face unprecedented challenges and knows which strategies will best serve professional learning communities. Tom has presented to schools and districts across North America and internationally with a message of celebration for educators seeking to make a difference in the lives of students.
