Hace mas de un cuarto de siglo que Ediciones Catedra publico por primera vez una edicion del ""Quijote"" en la coleccion Letras Hispanicas, a cargo del profesor John Jay Allen. En 1986, el profesor Allen modifico en parte la introduccion a la luz de algunos estudios que habian ido apareciendo despues de la primera edicion. Posteriormente el texto tambien fue revisado teniendo en cuenta las nuevas lecturas y enmiendas que la critica erudita y los investigadores han ido incorporando durante los ultimos anos.
