A sumptuous looking book from the gold gilt school crest, (North London Collegiate School For Ladies) on the front calf skin board to the marbled edges and endpapers, b/w illustrations and drop capitals/decorative chapter headings internally. Even the prize sticker on the front pastedown is elegant - awarded to Miss L. Dubisson as first prize for 'Diligence and Attention in French,' 1873. (NB book undated but late 1860s/early 1870s is probably in the right temporal territory). Condition: in many ways this book is in very good condition. Assessed as 'good;' rather than 'very good' because of slight external scuffing; combined with a level of tanning internally/occasional spotting. This is more true of the preliminary and final pages; especially with regard to the incidence of spotting. Very tight binding. pp. 258/18mo.
