A near fine Fontainebleau edition of G.P.R James' best-known novel, complete in two volumes. A Fontainebleau edition of George Payne Rainsford James' first and best known novel, in two complete volumes. Originally published in 1829, the story is set in the latter years of Louis XIII's reign when the eponymous Cardinal Richelieu was the French king's chief minister. Both volumes have a page of publisher's adverts before the title page. In the original binding. Externally very smart, with a mark to the rear board of volume I, and some rubbing at the joint on the front board of volume II. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and some marginal wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Some spotting to endpapers of volume II, but otherwise pages bright and clean with the occasional mark. Near Fine. Seller Inventory # 841N5
