The rock inscriptions of Razliq and Nasteban were published in 1965 by Warren C. Benedict, on the basis of latex rubber. The reference point is the city of Saräb, 120 km east of Tabriz on the road to Ardabil and the Caspian Sea. The inscriptions lie on the southern slope of the Sabalan Mountains, 4810 m, three meters higher than our Mont Blanc. English summary: The Urartian and the Hurrian language to which it is related form an isolated group within the surviving cuneiform languages of the Ancient Near East. Compared to Akkadian or Hittite, both languages have so far hardly been studied. Existing material, especially for the learning of Urartian, is very limited and - since in most cases it dates from many years back - it is partly out of date. Overviews in which students are introduced to the grammar with the help of longer text passages do not exist. This introduction to the Urartian language takes this situation into account providing the student with a textbook which roughly corresponds to the current state of knowledge. German description: Das Urartaische und das mit diesem verwandte Hurritische bilden eine isolierte Gruppe innerhalb der in Keilschrift uberlieferten Sprachen des Alten Vorderasiens. Beide Sprachen sind im Vergleich zum Akkadischen oder zum Hethitischen wenig erforscht. Die bisherigen Hilfsmittel gerade zum Erlernen des Urartaischen sind sehr begrenzt und - da zumeist alteren Datums - teilweise uberholt. Zusammenfassende Arbeiten, die den Lernenden anhand von grosseren zusammenhangenden Textstucken in die Grammatik einfuhren, sind nicht vorhanden. Die vorliegende Einfuhrung in die urartaische Sprache mochte diesem Umstand Rechnung tragen und dem Lernenden ein Lehrbuch an die Hand geben, das in etwa dem derzeitigen Kenntnisstand entspricht. Eine wissenschaftliche Grammatik im eigentlichen Sinne stellt diese Einfuhrung nicht dar, schon deshalb nicht, weil einerseits aufgrund des uberlieferten Materials etliche grammatische Kategorien fehlen, und weil andererseits wegen der nur allzu oft verschieden interpretierten Phanomene zu viele ungeloste Aspekte bestehen bleiben.
