Alcune annotazioni marginali del tempo. Firme di possesso del tempo della studiosa di spiritismo Emilia Molinatti Dalmazzo. Bella copia in barbe. Edizione originale, rara, di uno dei più curiosi e truffaldini volumi dell'intera storia della letteratura spiritica e d'oltretomba. L'autrice, il famoso soprano inglese Georgina Weldon (Tooting Lodge, Clapham Common, 1837-Brighton, 1914), aveva incontrato il grande compositore Charles Gounod nel 1871, ottenendo delle parti in rappresentazioni di sue opere. Gounod si trasferì a casa della Weldon in Inghilterra ma, allorché si accrebbero i pettegolezzi sulla loro presunta relazione amorosa, egli fece ritorno da sua moglie, suscitando così il rancore della cantante inglese, che rifiutò di spedirgli i suoi effetti personali e la partitura autografa del suo Polyeucte. Gounod dovette riscrivere a memoria la partitura, e solo dopo un anno la Weldon gli fece pervenire la prima stesura manoscritta, scrivendo in segno di vendetta il proprio nome diagonalmente a matita su ogni pagina. Il livore della Weldon si manifstò anche nel tentativo di muovere diverse cause legali contro il compositore, cause che si risolsero tutte in altrettanti insuccessi. Tuttavia, la fama della Weldon si affidò anche dopo la morte di Gounod principalmente al suo legame col compositore. Datasi allo spiritismo, ella sostenne di ricevere le periodiche visite del fantasma di Gounod, che le avrebbe dettato dall'aldilà, tramite la scrittura automatica, le poesie raccolte nel presente volume. La Weldon si rivolge in prima persona allo spirito di Gounod, non facendo parola delle cause legali e dei dissapori e dichiarando di volergli erigere un monumento più duraturo del marmo e del granito.
