Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. The Barber of Seville(A Comic Opera in Two Acts) by Gioachino Rossini(Libretto by Cesare Sterbini) was published by Boosey & Hawkes, Inc., in 1956. This 243-page, 57-year-old, approximately 6 1/2" X 10" offering is an ex-library copy in G condition. Still in overall quite nice, sound physical shape, there is some modest, light browning of text's pages, and some fairly minimal library markings are in evidence. There are a couple mild, diagonal creases on the front cover board, and a fairly mild, vertical crease down the length of the middle of back cover board. The top-left corner of the 3" X 5" title/author piece/label is torn away and clear taped along the remaining edge. The Main Title Page informs us that this Royal Edition of Operas printing/publication was done expressly for London Records, Inc. It represents the musical scoring of the entire Rossini creation, from "Overture, Act I" to "Finale, Act II", with complete words/lyrics, in both Italian and English. This volume would have allowed(and still could, if desired) anyone to listen to/follow along with the London recording of "The Barber of Seville", in this particular case as performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino(Alberto Erede, Conductor), and featuring Alvinio Misciano as Count Almaviva, and Giulietta Simionato as Rosina. And, all of the other principal characters are to be found--Doctor Bartolo, Basilio, Fiorello, and, of course, Figaro--in this charming tale of two young lovers who, through determination, cunning, but, mostly, desire for one another, achieve, after a tremendous outpouring of orchestration and singing, their ultimate goal of matrimonial bliss. For one interested/captivated in/by this beautiful, enduring genre of music, this offering may have a future, permanent place among your holdings(who knows, you may even possess the original London recording for which this book was to serve as a companion piece). Thanks very much!!
