Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Meet Karl Glogauer, time traveller and unlikely Messiah. When he finds himself in Palestine in the year 29AD he is shocked to meet the man known as Jesus Christ - a drooling idiot, hiding in the shadows of the carpenter's shop in Nazareth. But if he is not capable of fulfilling his historical role, then who will take his place?Expanded from the NEBULA-winning 1966 novella, BEHOLD THE MAN is one of the greatest books of Moorcock's long and varied career. Intense, delicate and brutal, it explores the psyche of one man as he faces his ultimate fate. One he knows he cannot avoid. The Michael Moorcock Collection presents, for the first time, definitive editions of Moorcock's most influential work, fully revised and updated by the author. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

His questions of faith surrounding his father's run-of-the-mill Christianity and his mother's suppressed Judaism lead him to a bizarre obsession with the idea of the messiah. After the collapse of his latest affair and his introduction to a reclusive physics professor, Karl is given the opportunity to confront his obsession and take a journey that no man has taken before, and from which he knows he cannot return." >> Minor cover creasing; cover scuffing Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Tall. Paperback: 7" x 4¼". Condition: Very Good: Light signs of wear. Cover Art: Walter Wyles (illustrator). 1980 Edition. © 1969: 1st in the 'Karl Glogauer' series of books. 1st printing of 1980 edition:- Review(s): "Michael Moorcock stands in relation to the world of science fiction much as Poe stood in relation to the Gothic novel. In 'Behold The Man' he has gone farther in point of imaginative outrage than ever before and farther than any previous writer in the genre. Moorcock's Karl Glogauer travels backwards in time in search of the truth about the Crucifixion. He finds more than he bargained for: a drooling idiot Jesus confined to the back room of the carpenter's shop, an animal Mary, Joseph on the make. Christ seems nowhere. Nowhere, shall we say, until Glogauer rides into Jerusalem on a donkey. Here is a writer of rare talent who has stumbled on an idea so dangerous and brilliant that scarcely any living writer could do justice to it" - Guardian:- (original cost £1.00).

Paperback: 7" x 4½". Condition: Very Good: Light signs of wear. Cover Art: Bob Haberfield (illustrator). 1970 Edition. © 1969: 1st in the 'Karl Glogauer' series of books. 3rd printing of 1970 edition. Unrecognised ISBN 0583117873 printed on cover. Winner of the USA's coveted Nebula Award:- Synopsis: Karl Glogauer, obsessed with the bright silver crucifix that dangles round the little girl's neck, tortured by his growing sexuality and the overwhelming mystic power of religion. Karl Glogauer loves with Eva, innocent and beautiful, but he is too destructive. He loves with a troop of middle-aged women, but they are just a training ground. He loves with Monica, but she is explosive, she stings like a scorpion. He loves. He tries to love. He tries. The story of Glogauer's crisis of identity weaves between modern London and ancient Palestine, between Glogauer's erotic hunt for personality and Christ's journey to the cross. This is perhaps the most controversial portrait of Christ ever painted:- Review(s): "Portnoy or Glogauer, the complaint's the same" - Evening Standard / "Here is a strange story. Here is a real inventiveness" - Manchester Evening News:- (original cost £0.50).

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. John Picacio (illustrator). 1st Edition. This is a unique "associational" copy that captures a shared moment in the careers of three SF luminaries. British ex-pat and SF Grand Master Michael Moorcock was living in Texas in 1996 when Austin-based Mojo Press published this "Thirtieth Anniversary Edition" chapbook of his classic novella "Behold the Man". On its copyright page is, "Interior Illustrations & Book Design by John Picacio". Per the April 2012 Locus Magazine article about Picacio (copy included with this book), "He worked as an architect while doing illustration work on the side, beginning with a cover and interiors for the 30th anniversary edition of Michael Moorcock's BEHOLD THE MAN." I purchased this copy of Moorcock's "Behold the Man" from the Rare Book Room of Half Price Books in Austin Texas, which had acquired it from the estate of Neal Barrett, Jr. It has two "associational" inscriptions on its front endpaper. Michael Moorcock wrote, "To Neil ? Soldiering on! All very best / As ever / Mike / 7th Sept 96 Austin". And Picacio wrote, "For Neal ? Enjoy ? Best Always, John Picacio 9/96". In addition, Michael Moorcock signed a full signature on the book's title page. Neal Barrett must have treasured this book, because it is still in unread fine condition. Its binding is tight and square, with no spine crease. Covers are unmarked and unworn. Pages are unworn and otherwise unmarked. Its dust jacket, now protected by a removable mylar cover, is whole, bright, unmarked, and unworn. I will ship this book in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure it reaches its new owner in the same condition as my description. Inscribed by Author(s).
