Carl Runguis (1860 - 1959) is regarded as one of the greatest game artists of the twentieth century. This book was developed by the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Canada to accompany an exhibition of Runguis' art displayed in 2000. Essays by art historians Karen Wonders and Robert Stacey explore the connection between Runguis as a keen sporting hunter and his role as a wilderness conservationist and how that informed his work as an observant and attentive artist.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Quarter green cloth with gilt spine titles and terra cotta cloth with moose skull decoration in gilt; green end sheets; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; folio; 117pp; illustrated with pencil-signed original etching with tissue guard as frontispiece, 1 b/w plate, 10 tipped-in color plates, reproductions of 8 etchings, 20 text figures and 1 b/w photo; green paper-over-board slipcase with paste-on cover label; limited to 160 numbered (#146) copies, signed by author & artist. This copy is particularly nice while the publisher's inferior slipcase shows the usual wear with chipping of the paper covering, especially along back panel with the upper 2" missing. The cardboard beneath is present, however. Cover label is fine. Perhaps, one of the nicest sporting art books ever produced. Difficult to find intact as the etching was often excised.
