Softcover. Condition: Fine. Fine, 4to, 11" x 8 1/2." Gray and black pictorial paper wrappers. Wrap-around illustration on covers of one of the artist's drawings, a city skyline. White lettering on front. No lettering on spine. Covers have a few small spots of rubbing, a few wrinkles, and slightly bumped tips, else clean and intact, binding tight. Pages pristine and intact. Replete with black-and-white illustrations of the artist's work. Unpaginated, 64 pp., including illustrations and front Index. Published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Kennedy Galleries in New York. The featured artist was Ben Shahn (1898-1969), an American artist. Born in Lithuania to Jewish parents, Shahn immigrated to the United States with his mother and two younger siblings at a young age. His father had been exiled to Siberia by the Russian Empire for alleged revolutionary activities, but he managed to escape and rejoin his family by traveling through South Africa. Shahn began his artistic training as a lithographer but eventually chose painting as his medium of choice. As a painter, Shahn became well-known for being part of the Social Realist movement and for incorporating political themes in his work. This is a unique look at his drawings. Predominantly illustrations with a brief statement by Lawrence A. Fleischman of Kennedy Galleries. Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping.
