First UK edition. xv, 160pp., a map of Japan, 8 figures, and 8 pages of black and white photographs. The Zero led the attack on Pearl Harbor, and dominated the Pacific in the early days of World War II. This book is the complete story of the Zero as told by its chief designer, Dr. Jiro Horikoshi. It is both the saga of the development and performance of a great aircraft and a personal account of how a famous aircraft designer went about his task. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The book is in excellent condition with light bumping to the bottom of the spine and the contents are tight and clean with an inscription dated 1989 on the half-title page. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with rubbing along the top and bottom edges, bumping nicks to the spine ends, and wear and chipping down the rear fore edge. There is a tear of about 1 1/2" with surrounding creases on the top rear edge and a tear of about 1" on the top front corner, and both the tears have been repaired on the reverse with tape.
