No publishing date stated but the cloth and type set is contemporary to 1940. Book is in excellent condition. Although the author is listed as Pauline Kohler, the real author of this book was John Beevor. At the request of the the British Ministry of Information he authored the book as anti Nazi propaganda. First edition. The author purports they were arrested by the Gestapo, sent to Dachau, released, became a housemaid for a prominent Nazi, and then for Hitler at Berchtesgaden. Hitler is presented as a brute with a sordid love life. Though the book surely enthralled its wartime audience, it was exposed as a hoax in 1970, concocted by two unemployed journalists. Octavo. Original orange cloth, spine lettered in black. With dust jacket. Contemporary ownership signature to front free endpaper. Slight crease and lean to spine; 7 cm closed tear at foot of rear fold, a few other minor closed tears and chips: a very good copy in very good jacket.
