This is a true first edition and meets all points.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Dalziel (Engravings By) (illustrator). 1st Edition. Undated, circa 1870. The sub title continues . "with numerous clever and characteristic illustrations". Indeed every page has an engraving or two with the text printed around. Bound with brown leather over the spine and the corners, five raised bands along the spine with gilt title and decorations along the bands. Marbled paper covered boards. The boards are rubbed, there is wear around the edges but it remains neat and robust. Very slight forward lean to the spine. The hinge and text block are firm. Black end papers, no inscriptions or markings. The pages have some brown marks, some spots but are in very good condition. A very nice copy. Scarce.

All aspects, including titles and gilt background bright. 8vo.,416pp. Nice d/j, this featuring the "There Was A Crooked Man" motif, with shallow chipping top of spine panal and some other extremities with just a tiny chip and/or small edgetears. No names or other markings.(a few penciled numerals r.p.d. which we are not inclined to erase). Illustrated throughout in black and white only. No date listed, but from laid-in material, purchesed from Used Books store in Feb. 1933. This a bright. clean copy in Near Fine condition in an exceptionally "Good" D/j in jacket protector.

RARE - no copies found in the OCLC of this little volume of verse by an employee of Bailey's Fine Candies, located at 45 West Street, in Boston circa 1916. It opened in 1873 at 45 West Street, and sold candy and ice cream. The owners were John B. Bailey and D.H. Page, and first focused on candy, but later added ice cream. Eventually, Bailey's opened up 11 ice cream shops, but closed its doors in the late 1980's.

Webster states that the majority of the content is new, and has not appeared in print before. There is a contents, and a classified list of items (aimed at teachers). Although an educational book, this is a significant part of the gathering of folk songs and rhymes, which was popular in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
