This excellent history, in content and presentation, was published to coincide with a Kamihi district re-union held late 1990. Kamahi, situated north east of Invercargill was first settled by Europeans in the late 1850s-early '60s, with one of the earliest major projects in the area the construction of a railway. However, timber milling was the earliest local industry. The cleared land was ideal for pastoral purposes and arable farming had become dominant by the 1990s. The history takes events up to that time, recalling every aspect of life, work, commerce, recreation, community and social activities, education and notable personalities. A model publication of its type, with the author's engaging text well complemented by an amazing collection of photographs. This copy has gift inscription on title page signed "Merv." First edition 1990, 264 pages including index, b/w photos throughout, several maps and few sketches, map e/papers. Green hard covers with gilt front/spine titles NF, Former owner's address label top corner title page, otherwise NF internally. Wrap-round colour aerial photograph DJ is VG with small tear top edge rear panel adjacent spine, few chips, spine area lightly sunned, some light edgewear. A scarce book. By Author.
