Corners are bumped and there is a closed tear near the bottom of the spine. Internal hinge cracks front and back.

Boards are tanned, cloth is split around corners and spine ends frayed. Headband partially detached. Small chips from joint ends- taped top of rear. Front hinge slightly loose. Deckled pages slightly toned. Color and b/w plates throughout with intact tissue. Endpapers have tape remnants and church stamps. Short tear at bottom of front fly.

Flaherty to screenwriter Julian Johnson, his partner in writing the South Seas Flaherty film, Moana (1926). Inscribed: ÒTo Julian Johnson, with the best wishes in the world. Bob Flaherty, New Yok, April15/25Ó. Julian Johnson (1885-1965), one time husband of New York nightclub hostess, Texas Guinan, had a distinguished career in Hollywood. He co-wrote the screenplay for Wings (1927), the first film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Johnson worked with D.W. Griffith on The Sorrows of Satan (1926), worked twice with Josef Von Sternberg on The Docks of New York (1928) and The Case of Lena Smith (1929) as well as numerous pictures starring actor Emil Jannings. Eventually, Johnson became the head story editor for 20th Century Fox studios in the 1930s. Quarter cloth to paper-covered boards. Printed paper titles labels on the spine and front board.
