This edition included the poem With Trumpet and Drum. Book is clean, pages are unblemished, and binding is solid. All Parish illustrations present and in fine condition (no tissue guards). Book has light wear at corner tips. Spine is straight; gold lettering is faded and there are some faint spots on the lettering. Small Virginia bookplate sticker at bottom of front free endpage, and a faint inscription on endpage. Large 8vo. 200 pp. including a one-page Scribner's ad for other "Classics for Younger Readers.".

No jacket. Large format. With eight illustrations by Maxfield Parrish. All illustrations and associated captioned tissue guards are present and in very good condition. Pictorial boards with (little faded) gold lettering to spine are very good with a few marks, few scratches, little pushing/bumping to corners, the odd small bump to edges, patchy rubbing, odd small patch of loss to top picture surface to front and a little wear (pushing/rubbing/slight fraying to the cloth) to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Top of pages gilt with a few small marks/odd scratch. Rough cut page edges and bottoms. Pages bit tanned. Odd small mark/spot of foxing to page edges and bottoms. Small crease to top corner of a few pages. Occasional small mark/spot of foxing to pages. No other faults. A nice copy. The frontispiece page is somewhat chipped around the edges, but the loss of material does not effect the illustration. All the rest of the illos are present. Bookplate to the front end paper. A couple of text pages have short tears. Overall, a solid and presentable example. No jacket.
