Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Winter, Milo (illustrator). First Thus. Vintage collection of 7 fairy tales by Hawthorne, originally written in 1853 & revived here as one of the lovely Windermere Series of classic books for young readers, all of which were illustrated by famous artists of the day, each with a colorful paper pastedown to the front boards. These have recently been reissued, making these original editions more highly collectible, particularly when they contain color plates, like this one! The artist here is Milo Winter, who contributed the frontispiece, front pastedown, decorative endpapers, + 7 full-color, full-page plates throughout the 283 pages of text. Orig. published in 1913, this is a slightly later printing of that First Edition (per publisher's code). Hardcover octavo (6.5" x 9.5") has blue cloth-covered boards with a colorful front paper pastedown. Condition is VG: generally quite clean with the occasional spot or smudge. Some lower-outer page edges show a small semicircular dampstain. Binding straight & strong, hinges secure. Pages creamy white & mildly tanned, but unmarked, save for former owner's name twice in pencil to verso of ffep; we also leave these intact in honor of that long-ago child reader. Modest bumping to all corners & spine tips, with a tad of fraying. No DJ. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive from us, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
