Black spine which fades into yellow-white light with black, red, and white lettering. Dust jacket is wrapped in a mylar covering. Signed flat by Markus Zusak on title page, dated 'March 06', the month that "The Book Thief" was released. JW consignment. Shelved in Case 7. Markus Zusak was born on June 23, 1975 in Sydney, Australia. Born to German and Austrian immigrants, Zusak was the youngest of four children. Zusak taught for a time at his previous high school while he wrote, but has since left the profession to pursue a full-time career as an author. Zusak published 3 books between 1999-2001 before releasing 'The Messenger' in 2002 to critical acclaim, earning the New South Wales Premier's Literary Award and was a runner up for the Printz Award in the United States. In 2023 a TV adaptation of 'The Messenger' premiered on ABC. 'The Book Thief' is Zusaks most acclaimed and successful novel, winning around 10 awards between 2006-2007. It is noted for the unique choice to be narrated by Death itself, who tells the tale of a young girl living through Nazi rule in Germany. 'The Book Thief' saw a film adaptation in 2013, which earned mixed reviews, many praising it's fresh perspective on war. A musical theater adaptation of the novel premiered in 2022 at the Octagon theater in Greater Manchester, England, also to mixed acclaim. 1384136. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.

Stated First American Edition, First Printing, Full Number-line with # 1 (Knopf, 2006) **APPEARS UNREAD** This book was signed for me in Dallas, Texas at the Barbara Bush Foundation For Literacy event. Photos of Mr. Zusak signing as well as a photo-copy of the event program will be included for provenance. The pen Mr. Zusak used for several of my books was split at the point, causing a 'doubling' effect. He quipped "Two autographs for the price of one!" The doubled autograph is a great bit of provenance as my ticket is photographed wit h it! Mr. Zusak gave the most humble, amazing speech at this event.
