Prize plate to front pastedown. Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed.

In very good minus dark brown bevel edged cloth boards, with black title field to front with gilt titles and decorative gilt 'L' for 'Land' and small decorative triangular shapes and horizontal ruled lines. The boards are flat and quite tight; hardly marked; spine ends bumped and frayed. Unmarked black end papers; the centres are split and the gutters show slight amount of webbing. The text block is in very good condition, especially for 1881, and profusely illustrated in black and white; one of the plates is loose. The pages are tightly bound and straight, the cut edges are slightly tanned and the pages are mostly clean. One of the prelims is missing. Printed name and address on a prelim. Not annotated. Without jacket.
