Z : 21 x 28,5 cm, 350 Seiten/pages - This new edition of the legendary 1993 Arnheim Catalogue has been completely revised and enlarged by the artist and appears in two volumes: the English edition in May to coincide with the Kelley exhibition at the Tate Liverpool, and, in June 2004, an edition which includes a German translation as well as an interview with the artist. The Uncanny consists of over 100 documentary photos of the human figure relating to the concept of the uncanny Doppelgaenger in its interrelationship between life and death. Freud described the uncanny as a suppressed and yet familiar state which can reappear transformed into a fearful guise. For the most part Kelley uses works from fellow artists such as Jasper Johns, Paul Thek, Paul McCarthy, Jeff Koons, Tony Oursler etc. The book also contains new additions to the collection, the Harems, photos from chewing gum cards, postcards, LP covers, magazines and toys, all related to the theme of childhood and youth.

First Edition
First Edition. Small quarto. Enormously influential catalogue published in conjunction with "The Uncanny", an exhibition organized by Sonsbeek 93 in the Gemeentemuseum, Arnhem, The Netherlands. Curated by Kelley, who also edited and provided text for the catalogue. The exhibition took on mythical status and was re-staged in Liverpool in 2004, with a new catalogue. All 115 illustrations described in the rear; an arresting mixture of mannequin-related art works and figurative sculpture from the sixties onwards. Near fine in photo-illustrated wrappers. Uncommon.
