Title page is dated 1822; however, this is a facsimile reproduction, dating from about 1922. 148 pages. Good condition. Edges and corners are worn; boards are rubbed. Binding is slightly cocked, but still sturdy and whole. Pages have toned a bit with age, with some foxing, but are free from pen or pencil markings. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Maroon cloth spine with yellow boards. Title in black on front. Corners are chipped and light chipping to front board. Light soil to front and back boards. Front pastedown has previous owner's signature. Pastedowns and endpapers have moderate foxing. Light, uniform foxing throughout text block. This directory was first published by William Duncan in 1822, and reproduced by the R. L. Polk and Co which was established in 1870. The information in the directory is from 1822 but the date the book was reproduced is unknown. Other than a residential directory, this book contains an abstract of the charter of Washington, a list of public offices, description of corporation offices, literary and benevolent institutions, latitude and longitude of the capitol, the width of streets and avenues, and a list of important places in the United States with population density. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 148 pp.
