Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First trade edition, first printing of the classic novel by acclaimed science fiction and fantasy author Ursula K. Le Guin. Contains the faint tell-tale "smudge line" running down the title page (from the "d" in "Wizard" to the "r" in "Press"--see photo). Consistent with the first trade edition, this copy contains an embossed illustration on the front cover and embossed lettering on the spine, and the back cover is free of embossing. Shortly after publication, this copy was purchased by the library system in Ursula Le Guin's hometown of Portland, Oregon. It entered into Multnomah County Library's circulation at Portland's Midland branch on April 15th, 1969 and remained in circulation until its recent donation to the Friends Library Store. This unique copy contains vintage Portland, Oregon library stamps (see photos). Slight warp to the spine. Dust jacket price-clipped and in Mylar. Pages clean and unmarked. The aqua-colored cloth boards are frayed on the bottom edges and slightly on top. Slight wear to binding but still sound. A wonderful piece of fantasy and library history.

First Edition
First editions of each of the six novels in Le Guin's acclaimed Wizard of Earthsea series. Octavo, 6 volumes, original cloth. Each are fine in near fine to fine dust jackets. The Wizard of Earthsea is a second state and the dust jacket priced at $3.95. A Wizard of Earthsea with illustrations by Ruth Robbins; Tombs of Atuan and Farthest Shore with illustrations by Gail Garraty. An exceptional set. The Earthsea hexalogy, set in the archipelago of Earthsea, tells the story of Ged, a wizard's apprentice at a school of wizardry. Just as LeGuin was seemingly inspired by Tolkien, J.K. Rowling must have been influenced by this beautiful epic fantasy. Each book in the trilogy is an award winner. The Wizard of Earthsea received a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award in 1969 and a Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1979. The Tombs of Atuan was a 1972 Newbery Honor Book, and the Farthest Shore received a National Book Award in 1973. George Slusser has described the series as a "work of high style and imagination", while Amanda Craig said that A Wizard of Earthsea was "the most thrilling, wise, and beautiful children's novel ever.".
