An uncommon first edition.The third volume only out of a total of four volumes.ESTC citation number T101742.An interesting history of England, this volume looking at the period from 1509 to 1613; from the accession of Henry VIII to the marriage of James I's daughter Elizabeth Stuart, Queen of Bohemia, to the Elector Palatine Frederick V is 1613.This volume encompasses the Tudor era, from the reigns of Henry, Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth, and the first part of the reign of James I.Written by Thomas Carte, a historian with Jacobite sympathies.Bookplate of Mandell Creighton to the recto to the front endpaper. Creighton was a noted historian and bishop, a renowned scholar of the Renaissance papacy. He received much praise during his career, including from Queen Victoria. His wife was the author and woman's suffrage activist Louise Creighton, the couple were passionate about the education of children.Bookplate of Gilbert Buchanan to the front paste down.Collated, complete. In a quarter calf binding with paper to the boards. Externally, boards are detached but present. Binding is rubbed with marks, with some loss of leather to the joints and spine, and loss of paper to the boards. Some bumping to the extremities. Boards are a little faded. Front endpaper is detached. Internally, binding is broken in places with the textblock detached in eight pieces. Pages are a little age toned with some spots. Poor. Seller Inventory # 817P23
